Although Mack, a junior guard from Paterson Catholic High School (N.J.), is known for his long-range ability, he can also display great point guard skills. Despite his quick forward momentum, Mack has very controlled, sharp, quick and accurate passing ability. He can easily change gears on offensive sets and beat an opponent off the bounce. When Mack is hot from the perimeter, he's on fire, stroking the nets from anywhere on the hardwood. At times, he can attempt too many outside shots, which would make one question his overall game's depth. But, Mack constantly reevaluates tight game situations with realistic expectations. He doesn't attempt the same play twice if it wasn't successful for him the first time around.

February, 2009: Mack is a tough lead guard that competes and has the ability to make big shots when the game is on the line. He may lack size but not heart. Mack pushes the ball in transition with good speed as he weaves through traffic. He can get all the way to the rim with a clear path or drive draw and kick to open teammates. He runs the offense and can create a scoring play at end of clock situations. He can make three's off the catch and can get on a role and knock down two or three in a row. He has a nice stroke with a good elevation and smooth release. Mack has confidence in his jumper and shoots it without hesitation. His ability to make open shots keeps the defense honest and it sets up his ability to attack off the dribble. Mack has a quick first step to beat his defender and has a nice high arcing floater when he arrives in the lane that he executes with great touch over taller opponents. Mack is a good on ball defender as well. He has quick hands and great lateral foot speed. He must add strength in order to keep from being knocked off the ball and to help him score through contact. With steady skill improvement Mack has all the tools to be a very good point guard.

December, 2008: Myles is a small, scoring point guard that is quick with the ball and has a fast release. His quick trigger and elevation on his jumper makes up for his lack of height. Against St. Patrick's in the second round of the Beach Ball Classic Myles went for 20 points on 6-13 shooting from 3. Myles is great at coming off on-ball screens and making deep range threes contested. He sets up screens extremely well coming on off-ball screens. Myles is also a good distributor. His quickness allows him to get into gaps and find his scorers. He has a good handle and creates well for his teammates but his youth shows sometimes when he gets too deep or dribbles into traffic and turns it over.

Myles Mack, Paterson Catholic (2011): The highly-touted guard really struggled with his shot all weekend, missing most of his long-range jumpers. The normally knock-down shooter gets tremendous lift on his shots, but couldn’t hit them this weekend. He’s not overly aggressive driving to the basket, but showed a decent pull-up jumper. With his size, though, he’s going to need to develop more of an ability to play the point. He did show flashes of solid passing.

Mack, who is listed in the sub 5-foot-10 range, told NBE he has interest from Fordham, DePaul, Virginia Tech, Virginia, St. John’s and Xavier.

Myles Mack, 5-10, Paterson Catholic (N.J.), 2011: Mack played very well in the games that I watched him in. He ran the team with effectiveness, driving to the basket for easy lay-ups or finding open teammates for baskets. Mack was at his best when pushing the ball in transition and pulling up for three-pointers or running a fast break. If his jump shot was falling, he would have been unstoppable.

Myles has added interest from Syracuse and DePaul, as well as VCU. He would like to visit the Orange and Blue Demons as well as Virginia Tech and St. John’s, who has extended an offer. He also mentioned he has not heard from Georgetown in some time.

Miles was on campus last week for an unofficial with his family per Zagsblog

http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/09/12/busy-day-for-harris-family-uconn-coaches/

Paterson Catholic junior point guard Myles Mack took an unofficial to St. John’s on Saturday with his family.
“It went really well. We got the tour of the campus. We got to meet the coaching staff. I met Malik Boothe and Quincy Roberts,” Mack said.

Mack said he’s still planning some other visits to Fordham, Virginia Tech, Rice and Providence.
Asked if he had any favorites, Mack said, “Not really.”

Hampton, VA - The Boo Williams Invitational as part of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League kicked off on Friday evening. There were some special performances as usual, but maybe the most impressive was from New Jersey Playaz point guard Myles Mack who propelled his team to a win over the host team.

Myles Mack has offers from DePaul, Fordham, St. John's, Virginia, Penn State, Western Kentucky, and a couple of others.

Paterson Catholic junior point guard Myles Mack said he hopes to decide this week what high school he will attend next season.

The 5-foot-10 Mack is considering New Jersey’s three top traditional programs, St. Anthony, St. Patrick and St. Benedict’s.

“I’m not sure yet,” he said. ”I haven’t really made a decision yet.”

Mack said he hopes to visit St. Anthony in Jersey City and St. Patrick in Elizabeth this week

“I’m going to visit St. Anthony early on this week,” he said. “I was going to visit St. Pat’s this week, too. I’ve been to St. Ben’s.”

Paterson Catholic will close after this year and Mack’s teammate, 6-8 sophomore Kyle Anderson, has already declared his plans to play at St. Anthony for Hall of Famer Bob Hurley.

If Mack were to follow suit, the backcourt could be reunited under Hurley.

Asked if he would like to play with Anderson, Mack said, “Yeah, I would.”

St. Patrick lost point guard Kyrie Irving to Duke and will need someone to come in and be a playmaker and distribute the ball to Kentucky-bound wing Michael Gilchrist.

St. Benedict’s also needs a point guard, having lost Texas-bound floor general Myck Kabongo to Findlay Prep.

A piece on Mack and the Johnnies interest via Rivals.

St. John's new administration did not forget to target top local talent from the tri-state area. One such player is Myles Mack, a rising senior point guard who attended the now defunct, Paterson Catholic (N.J.).

Up until now, Myles Mack has been getting looks mostly from Big East and Atlantic 10 schools, but now UCLA may be entering the picture for the 5-9 point guard from Paterson (N.J.).

“UCLA hasn’t offered yet,” Mack said, adding that they had expressed interest.

Miami, St. John’s, Rutgers, Fordham, Marquette, Virginia, and Providence are also on Mack’s list.

“I don’t have any favorites,” he said.

Mack and Playaz teammate Kyle Anderson will play for Bob Hurley at St. Anthony because PC is closing.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “Trying to make it an undefeated season for my last year. It’s our first year there, we want to play as hard as we can for Coach Hurley.”

Wow, good for them. Mike Rice has certainly made a statement at Rutgers.

It's time some of these garbage programs turn it around. A new coach is about the best chance you've got.

That first recruiting class has everything to do with the success that the new coach will have. If he doesn't get it right immediately, it's usually over.

Still, we've seen this from Rutgers before. They bring in a great class on paper, and then the ball goes up.

Not that I ever considered them a legit threat for him, but I imagine this knocks them out of the Cook sweepstakes.

Kyle Anderson and Myles Mack seem close... hopefully Kyle will choose to go to a different school, though.

With Kentucky involved I just can't see that happening.

Nice Job by Rice to get his first two recruits both being Playaz too. Great pipeline to start up.
